Game On: An exclusive talk with Brok3nsite CEO Antonio Manuel Garcia Ceva

In this week's edition of "Game On," The Fly spoke in an exclusive interview with Antonio Manuel Garcia Ceva, the chief executive officer of indie game developer Brok3nsite. The studio recently released survival horror game "Dawn of Fear" exclusively on the PlayStation 4 (SNE).

'DAWN OF FEAR': The CEO said that "Dawn of Fear" has been received "very well" since its launch earlier this month. "Every developer expects his project to do well," Garcia Ceva said. "In our case, it exceeded expectations. It is our first video game and we have [made] rookie mistakes. However we have managed to convey to the player the experience we were looking for. It is a game that invites you to explore and know what is happening. Removing our limitations, we have complied with the most important thing a video game should do, have a good time."

HORROR GAMES: When asked how Brok3nsite is able to make a survival horror game stand out in such a competitive environment for the genre, the studio's CEO said that part of the success lies in listening to the gaming community. "We love the survival horror genre and we have always been listening to the community, moreover, we are part of that community," he told The Fly. "Dawn of Fear is still an interpretation of how we see things have to be done. We have had to leave many things because of the limited resources, we are only four people and that does not reach to cover all the profiles that are needed. But thanks to the massive support for Dawn of Fear we can continue to give our vision of how the genre should evolve and take it to a new level."

PS4: "Dawn of Fear" is a PlayStation 4 exclusive, which is unusual as indie games don't tend to become console exclusives. When asked why the game was only released on that system, Garcia Ceva noted that in the studio's home country of Spain, there is an initiative known as PlayStation Talents which supports local developers. "This initiative provides resources that we four friends without any previous experience could not reach," he said. "They supported us by giving us access to development kits. They also provided us with a space in Lanzadera. A very special place, where they help [startups] grow and go out to the open sea. We are very grateful."

OTHER PLATFORMS: On the topic of possible ports to other platforms, the Brok3nsite CEO told The Fly that the company right now is only contemplating a PC version.

DISTRIBUTION: When asked if the studio would consider making "Dawn of Fear" or any future project available on a streaming service, such as Google Stadia (GOOG), or subscription service, such as Xbox Game Pass (MSFT), Garcia Ceva said, "As developers, we love the proposals and the challenges posed by new technologies. It is very fun to use new tools to tell our stories through video games. We will study the new platforms and the players' ways of playing. As always we will give our version of how it should be always thinking about the player."

"Game On" is The Fly's weekly recap of the stories powering up or beating down video game stocks.
